Picture this. It is a Friday night and you're with your girlfriends and you all are getting down, releasing all of the energy built up from the many stresses of daily life. The DJ is doing their thing and everybody in the room is dancing their behind off, grooving to good music, young and old. But then that song comes on. You know, that song. You have heard it many times before and probably know most of the words. You love this song!
But what's the name of it? You want to add it to your iTunes library but can't do it without know either the name of the song or who sings it. So here is my Top 10 list of obscure jams that I have had to research in the past.
10. Freak Like Me by Adina Howard
9. I'll Do Anything For You by Denroy Morgan
8. Rock Creek Park by Donald Byrd and the Blackbirds
7. Don't Stop the Music by Yarsborough and Peoples
6. Follow Me by Ally Us
5. Misdemeanor by The Sylvers
4. Love is the Message by MFSB
3. What You Won't Do For Love by Bobby Caldwell
2. Return of the Mack by Mark Morrison
1. Running Away by Roy Ayers
Do any of these songs sound familiar? Well I hope so! These are classic tunes that are often overlooked because the artists who sang them were one-hit wonders like Adina Howard and Denroy Morgan.
'Return of the Mack' was a huge hit for Mark Morrison in 1996, selling over two million copies in the United States alone. But his career was cut short with an extensive criminal record that will ensue shortly after his big success. Other singers like Bobby Caldwell, Donald Byrd and Roy Ayers were more well known in the jazz world and their songs listed above were crossover hits.
Now that you know the names of some of your favorite songs, you can go on and add them to your collection. After all, we don't want them to be forgotten.
